On Tuesday the 16th, the transition year students in Gaelcholaiste Ceatharlach were treated to a one-day African dance and drumming workshop by Wassa Wassa. The morning began with the year group being split in two: one half worked on African dance & song with Godfred while the others began learning basic drumming skills with Niall. After a quick break the two groups swapped around, and both groups also had the chance to learn about African culture, specifically that of West Africa, and about different traditions found there; such as the masked dance festivals of Mali and Burkina Faso. The drumming instructor, Niall, spoke of his travels in Africa over the course of two years. The day culminated with a 15 minute performance by the students for the teachers and the first year students.
