This year’s schools senior basketball All – Ireland playoffs were held partly in Coláiste Lorcáin, Castledermot, with other games being played in the Gaelcholáiste Ceatharlach. GCC’s first game of the day was played in Coláiste Lorcháin against Tarbert College from County Kerry. Gaelcholáiste started well, with Cathal Ó Braonáin finshing from a nice pass from Evan Ó Corráin. They gained an eight point lead before the half, when Tarbert finally got themselves off the bus, they managed to claw back the lead. The game finished with GCC pushing them close, but Tarbert managed to edge a win by seven.
Shortly after this game, the venue was moved to the Gaelcholáiste Ceatharlach, as Coláiste Lorcáin’s court was deemed dangerous due to slippy patches. GCC’s second game tipped off later in the day, where Coláiste Lorcáin provided the opposition. Coláiste Lorcáin came out of the blocks quickly gaining a ten point lead. GCC edged their way into the game due to good play from Liam Ó Braonáin. Despite this Coláiste Lorcáin’s great performance could not be matched in the end.
Gaelcholáiste Ceatharlach’s came up against Old Bawn from Tallaght in the school’s final game of the evening. A slow start from Gaelcholáiste gave Old Bawn the chance to gain a healthy lead early on. Just after the second half started managed to lift the lid off the basket and started draining some shots from Ben Mac Domhnaill and Seán Ó Brúadar
The Gaelcholáiste lads fought bravely to the bitter end, but certainly did themselves proud in the process.
