On Friday the 29th, the TY students of Gaelcholáiste Ceatharlach came together to organise a bake sale for the school. A number of students baked a wide variety of cakes from millionaire shortcake to red velvet cupcakes in the theme of High School Musical as it’s this year’s school musical.
Also on that day, a basketball match was organised between TY students and the teachers who were willing to take to the court. The match was a part of a fundraising campaign held by the TY students. One girls and one boys team kitted out to compete against an enthusiastic teachers’ side.
The teachers began strongly with the first score early on, but it didn’t take long for the boys to pull back a lead in the first quarter. Sean Ó Brúadair inspired a run of scoring for the students, with Evan Ó Corráin draining a couple of 3’s from deep, rallying the full house of fans. The students headed into the second quarter with a substantial lead as a cushion for the girls team. The girls battled well but a comeback was emerging for the teachers, this, along with the substitution of a crowd favourite teacher ignited the crowd once again to revive the electric atmosphere.
The student’s team retained a comfortable lead throughout the second half lead by Seán and Evan, while rotating the squad. Seán Ó Bruadair and Evan Ó Corráin combined for 37 points. The game finished with quite a considerable win for the younger team!
Much fun and cheering was had by all!
