GCC RUN ‘AMUCK’
Heywood College was the wet and windy venue for a very tough South Leinster Schools Cross Country Championships this week and the students from Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlach produced some terrific performances with Caitlín Nic Dhomhnaill a terrific 5th in the senior Ladies. Her recent injuries behind her, Caitlín ran a very clever race picking off her opponent along the way. Maebh Ní Mheachair can be very satisfied with her 9th place in the girls Intermediate event and also her sister Caragh 8th in the junior event. The previous weekend both girls were placed in the All Irelands so a good week all round.
Our minor girls team of Sophie Ní Éide in 57th place followed by Leah Ní Mhaolmhuaidh 71st Tara Ní Longáin 80th and Ava Ní Chaomhánaigh 81st all gave their all in the 1500m race.
Our junior team of Caragh Ní Mheachair 8th Sadbh Ní Scolaí 48th and Ciara Nic Aogáín 31st finished just outside the medals over the 1500m course.
A huge field in the boys intermediate saw Dach Ó Muirí 63rd with Craig Ó Nualláin 71st, Moling Ó hInglís Ó hÉideáin finished 72nd in the junior boys with Séamus Pléimeann 112th. In the minor boys Fiachra Ó Scolai 83rd and Dylan Mc Eochaidh finished 112th. Our lone competitor in the senior boys 6K was Cormac Ó Ceallaigh and by the time the seniors took to the course it was a very muddy and energy sapping event. A mid table finish for Cormac was his reward for his efforts.
